Mexican Park in Bogor Botanical Gardens

Mexican Park is the name of one part of Bogor Botanical Gardens. It is located on the North side of the Gardens. It is separated by fence and Juanda street from Bogor Market.

The place now known as Mexican Park actually has a role in Bogor history. It is believed to be where the first village in the rain city established. The name of the village was Kampoeng Baroe or New Village.

However I am not going to write about the history this time. It will be just about its current situation.

As explained on my writing about what you can find In Bogor Botanical Gardens, you will find that actually the Gardens are the mother of many smaller garden or park. One of them is given a name as Mexican Park.

To differ from its mother, on this writing, I will use a term of Park instead of Garden.

You may wonder about the relation between Bogor and the country in Central America. Then, it is the point that I would like you to know.

The park name doesn’t actually have any relation with Mexico, either in history nor currently. The only reason for the name to be attached is just because the species of plants in the park.

All of the species planted here, in Mexican Park come from dry season continents. Many species of cactus, agave , yucca and many other succulent type species live here. There are more than a hundred types of succulent plants in the park.

They are not only from Central America because the caretaker has collected various type also from any other dry lands in the world like Gobi desert in Asia and also Sahara . Nevertheless, many species from America continent can also be found here.

The name of Mexico was probably given because there is a desert there . Also it is known that the desert there is not such extreme as the situation in other deserts like in Middle East. It is understandable because not all of the plants can live in the extreme weather.

If you visit this park, you will be welcomed by few attractive figures. The first one, you will see a sexy LADY DANCER. It is cute. Really!

The others are a team with three members. I call them the SOMBREROS. Their hands hold a guitar and a trumpet. The last member seems to be the singer.

Unfortunately, you won’t hear any tap dancing from the dancer, nor the sound of guitar and trumpet. The sweet voice of the singer will not present as well. Even, if you hear them producing such noise, I am sure you will run immediately.

Do you know why? Because the figures that welcome you are only statues. They were made using wood and cement. Vine plants live on their skin and cover all over their body. It looks their skin is made from organics material that provide food for the plants.

It is quite interesting to see the figures and attractive. I salute the creator for the idea. They match with the environment.

However, the cool wind blows the image of being in desert immediately. Although hard working from the creator of the Mexican Park, it can not imitate the desert hot temperature and emptiness. The weather in Bogor is much cooler and also the thick trees surrounding the park is not co-operative to the idea.

But overall, really nice try. In general the Mexican Park is still enjoyable and attractive.

How to find the Mexican Park? Quite easy. You should enter from the main gate of Bogor Botanical Garden that is across Bogor Market. From there you will find T-junction (and you will see Lady Raffles Monument at the corner). Turn Left.

Fifty meters from there you will find another T-junction. Turn right and you will see the Mexican Park there. There is big name in front of the Park mentioning “Taman Meksiko”. That is what I mean on the above writing.

If you finish enjoying the Mexican Park, probably you should move next to “Broken Heart” bridge. It is next to the park.

I will write it next. Not now.

Meantime, have a nice day to you all

Cheers
